Summer Road Trip, Day 5: The Art of the Skull
The LACMA (Los AngelesCounty Museum of Art) is an extremely cool place. We began our adventure there with lunch. Here is my eggplant with vadouvan risotto,
which was amazing.
This is the most vicious
umbrella in the city. It attacked Brent
and attempted to decapitate him.
Fortunately, Brent is more powerful than any silly umbrella.
The major reason we went
to this particular museum is that they have some gorgeous illuminated pages of
the Shahnameh. Sadly, I took no pictures
of those, although they were exhibited with some more contemporary Iranian art
to give a sense of the influence of the past on the present. We also learned that there is such a thing as
Iranian wrestling pants.
We saw many great pieces
of art from Teotihuacan, including this skull.
I loved the exhibit about
Renaissance chiaroscuro in block printing.
We found a skull there, too.
And, to round out the experience,
here is a skull sign we saw on the way to get ice cream.
Dinner, also not
pictured, was delicious Persian food from the place around the corner from
where we are staying.
